Body of Work

As stated in our Project Proposal, DeeJay want our final project to consist of a larger Body of Work rather than just a single film. We currently want to produce a film poster (or several), photograph prints, a graphic novel and a promotion website. All these pieces of work will be relevant to the film and when it comes to the degree show, they all will be presented in an installation piece.

DeeJay and I are both fond of the stylistic approaches taken in Film Noir and this also applies to the film posters. I am particularly fond of works by Graphic Designer Saul Bass and is a style that I want to re-produce for our film. The works that I am most interested in are Man With The Golden Arm (1955) and Anatomy of a Murder (1958) Although these films are not Noir, this artwork is reflective of a period in which Film Noir was still prominent; Orson Welles’ Touch of Evil (1958) is cities as the last classic noir (Wikipedia Silver (1996), p. 11; Ottoson (1981), pp. 182–183; Schrader (1972), p. 61.)

As our film will be visually presented in the form of a graphic novel, we believe it is important that we produce a graphic novel to accompany the film. Providing that we shoot the film and edit the photographs on time, a graphic novel can be produced using the website www.blurb.com.  This is something that could be presented at the Degree Show in order for potential clients to browse through.

Photography is the defining element of our film and the cinematography is quite frankly going to have to be amazing. Therefore it might be a good idea to produce a selection of still prints that define the film.

The website therefore can be used to promote the film, its artwork and graphic novel. This could merely be a promotional website created on Dreamweaver or an equivalent software or alternatively upload it to the World Wide Web.
